Wine Tasting Tour of the Chianti Region
Meeting outside the Jolly Hotel, La Lizza at 9:30 am, we will drive to Castellina in Chianti, which was part of the League of Chianti, and which has conserved, largely intact, its medieval town centre. We will walk along the main street, full of tempting little shops, and through the beautiful covered Via delle Volte. The tour then proceeds to Radda in Chianti, the capital of the ancient League. There will be free time in Radda to explore the many delicatessens selling local specialities that line the main street. We will then return to the coach, and travel to a local Chianti producer where we will be able to taste the various wines and have al light brunch. After this pleasant interlude we will be visiting the Meleto Castle, one of the most characteristic castles of the Chianti area, with its beautifully decorated walls, and private theatre, which is largely unchanged since the 1700s. From the castle walls there is a breathtaking view over the hills and vines of Chianti. Following this we will visit Badia a Coltibuono, an abbey quite unlike anything else in the Chianti region. The more energetic visitors will be able to exit the coach early and walk the last section up to the abbey! Next we will visit another wine producer for a tasting accompanied by some snacks, and we will be able to take in the beautiful views, made even more special by the relaxing effects of Chianti Classico wine.
